Permanent tooth loss, why the loss?

Tooth loss can result from Injury, diseases caused by bacteria, such as tooth decay and Dental Avulsion. The bacteria Streptococcus mutans, Streptococcus sanguis and Streptococcus salivarians, causes Dental caries. These bacteria affect the teeth and gums.

Edentulism(Toothlessness) is a condition of being toothless. It can be partial edentulism(loss of some teeth) or complete edentulism(loss of all teeth). It has many consequences_social and emotional.

Tooth loss is normal for baby teeth when they are replaced by the adult teeth. It is abnormal for adult teeth, because it cannot be replaced when they are lost. It is a permanent loss! Loss of permanent teeth can occur in children and adults, due to Injury.

Smoking, Diabetes, Poor Oral hygiene and much intake of sugary food, put the elderly at greater risk of Natural tooth loss. Why bacteria activities is the major cause of Tooth decay and Gum disease. It’s expedient to brush your teeth twice daily.

Why do we need to brush our teeth daily

To reduce the activities of bacteria on our teeth, we need to brush our teeth twice daily.

Do you know there is a dense collection of bacteria in our mouth?

Have you ever wondered why you woke up early in the morning and found your saliva tasted sour? It is the breakdown of food remnant into acid, by bacteria. Therefore, the need to remove this remnant by brushing before going to bed. Tooth decay is a gradual process, which usually manifest itself in adulthood.

Teeth can easily decay because germ readily grow on bits of food that tend to stick to the teeth after a meal.

The germs breakdown food particles (especially carbohydrates) to produce acids. The acids wear away the enamel(white) and dentine of a tooth. This expose the nerves and blood vessels in the pulp cavity.

This creates holes inside, and finally results to fall off.

Prevent yourself from Dental caries, Gum diseases and Tooth decay, which can lead to Edentulism.

=> Brush your teeth twice a day with a soft-bristled brush.

=> Make use of a Flouride toothpaste.

=> Replace your tooth brush every 3-4 months. A worn toothbrush won’t clean your tooth well.

=> Eat less of sugary/carbohydrates food.

Obesity is a state of being obese(extreme fatness) due to an excess of body fat. It’s a medical condition which can result to Cardiovascular diseases, Diabetes, Depression, Osteoarthritis, certain types of cancer, and Obeseism(discrimination against very fat people).

According to a research, obesity is more common in women than in men. And it’s a preventable cause of death nationwide. Obesity does not come one day, it’s as a result of fat, “gradually” accumulating in the body

Body Mass Index(BMI), is commonly used to classify overweight and obesity in adults. If your BMI is greater than or equal to 25, it’s overweight. And if your BMI is greater than or equal to 30, it’s Obesity!

Therefore, it’s expedient to check your BMI. Overweight and Obesity will be on the rise during this period. Obesity pose a major risk for chronic diseases.

The importance of Exercise in diseases prevention, cannot be over emphasized. Get your fat burnt by walking around, doing some workouts, starving yourself for some hours, and checking your diet.

Health workers said: “sleeping immediately or few minutes after eating, increases the accumulation of fat in the body”. Eat hours before you sleep and don’t take much water.

Consume less processed and sugary food, eat plenty of diatery fibre, eat low-fat diet.

Physical exercise and Diet control is the key! Control overweight early, before it leads to Obesity. “Prevention is better than cure(cost).
